As Wyatt Schwab reflects on how his racing career started, there is one thing he can assure you. Every little boy starts out obsessed with anything that has wheels. For Schwab, it was the gift of a slot car track that first ignited his interest in the sport. Watching his toy Formula 1 cars race wildly around the track inspired him to do the same. Now, at 17-years-old, he finds himself behind the wheel of a Mazda Prototype Challenge car in the IMSA Prototype Challenge Presented by Michelin Tire series.
His step into the IMSA latter system came after much research and deliberation. Schwab has multiple go-kart titles and made a name for himself among the Northeast championships. He took the step from go-kart to car with the Skip Barber Summer Series where he finished the championship in the top-10. However, his step into IMSA meant something more; it shows his dedication to a future career. Specifically, sports car racing.
Schwab sets out not to win another title alone; he's setting out to mold a career in prototype racing at the top level in North America. IMSA's premier sports car racing series, WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, offers a tri-tier racing format with two GT categories and one Prototype class. By competing in the IMSA Prototype Challenge series, Schwab is one step, one more championship away from joining the upper echelon of racing.
Schwab has paired up with New Jersey based team, Forty7 Motorsports, to reach his goal. The team has three championships under its belt in the IMSA Prototype Challenge series and also competes in the Prototype class. Schwab's lion heart and determination paired with a winning team are sure to put him ahead of his competition and jettison his career into the global arena of sports car racing.
